An Analytical Study on Stressors Experienced by Nursing Students during Clinical Practice

Abstract
|
|
|
The purpose of this study lies in providing basic materials for efficient guidance to clinical nursing education by grasping stressors experienced_ by nursing students during clinical practice.
The subjects of the study were 228 students, of Red Cross junior College of Nurisng.
The data were collected by means of a self-reported questionnaires from December 8 to 12, 198 Data analysis included percentage, means, standard deviations, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson Correlation
Coefficients by using the SPSS programs.
The results of the study were as follows;
1. Viewed from each of the categories of stressors which nursing students experienced during clini :1 practice, "Nursing Activity" was the category in which nursing students experienced most severe stre s at a mean 3.404 and "Personal Relations" was the category in which nursing students experienced mildest stress at a mean 2.529.
2. Considering the stressors involved in each category, the results were as follows;
1) In "Environment," "Non-educational environment at clinical practice hospital" was revealed as thmost severe s4essor at a mean 3.715 and "Possibility of contamination at hospital" was revealas the stressor causing mildest stress at a mean 2.482.
2) In "Personal Relations," "Relations with staff nurse" was revealed as the most severe stressor a a mean 3.061 and "Relations with fellow students" was revealed as the stressor causing mildes stress at a mean 2.026.
3) In "Role," "Repetition of simple and functional work during clinical practice" was revealed as the most severe stressor at a mean 3.768 and "Difference in self-dignity or conviction of self-position¢¥ was revealed as the stressor causing mildest stress at a mean 3.009.
4) In "Nursing Activity," "Lack of nursing knowledge and skill" was revealed as the most severe stressor at a mean 3.658 and "Receiving the call or reporting to doctor" was revealed as the stressor causing mildest stress at a mean 2.772.
3. The relationships among these categories revealed significant correlation in all categories (p<.01).
